I mentioned previously that I recently got on instagram and I'm really loving the community there!
There is endless inspiration and so many people making and drawing amazing things.
I started participating loosely in inktober, a project that was started by illustrator Jake Parker.
The goal is to improve your skills and to sketch everyday in ink for the month of October.
I have been so out of my normal routine that sketching in any form has been my goal. I'm pretty happy with some of the new stuff I've done including my first adventure time fan art and some sketches that I've had laying around in very rough stages. I hope to update my society 6 shop soon :)
What Fall projects are you working on? Happy Monday!!!
You can follow me on instagram @floatingthrufields
Free Shipping on Society6 today, I've added some new artwork with fun little owls, the quote is from song lyrics by Hilary Weeks, it reminds me to be more optimistic about every opportunity, and that I can choose to be upbeat about things even when they are hard.
It's time for Show and Tell again! I've talked about past projects here . Sometimes there are unforeseen hiccups in life like illness or exhaustion, so we had to finish our projects within a couple weeks instead of just one. We decided that the goal would not always be to completely start and finish the project within a week but more importantly we would focus on making good progress on our projects and goals. I still feel like I have the momentum and drive to get more done during the week than I used to so I'm counting that as a small victory!
My friend Jenn has come up with really cool ideas lately, quilted initials. These are large oversized pillows with her kids initials that match their quilts!!! So freaking cute and adorable and customized and amazing! Custom orders are a possibility and stay tuned her shop is gonna have some great new goodies!!!
I worked on some drawings and brainstorming on how I could make them into stuffed animals.
Like my Valentine's Day take on a dapple dachshund, like Elsie's little sweetie Dolly!
Dapple Dachshunds have swirls of black and gray and brown and are simply adorable!
I added heart shaped spots for a whimsical look.
plush version
I used my fun fabric for the printer and did better on clipping my curves but I would like to make a larger version like 3 x the size so it's big and snugly :)
I also finally drew a sloth for a sweet coworker who loves them. This was a quick ipad sketch, I'd like to do another version and flesh out the details a little more. What projects are you working on?
Happy Friday!!!
One of my goals for 2014 was to open a society6 shop and I last week I did :)
I was waiting to share because I was hoping to add more items but, as some of you know things sometimes take longer than you think ;)
I'm kind of a sucker for mugs and I'm pretty excited that they have this customizable option. With a happy mug you have a happy day :)
Not to mention the tote bags
And everything looks better on canvas YAY :)
I think it is really cool to see your artwork in so many different forms, it's kind of addicting, so I'm excited to see how I can rise to the challenge to create work with a different final form in mind.
I'm already working on some ideas, but it's kinda hard to stay focused with personal projects for friends and loved ones and Valentine's day just around the corner.....I keep thinking of adorable little animals and stuff covered with hearts that I want to draw this week.
bashful skull
I've added my society6 shop link on the page but don't worry I have exciting plans for my etsy shop in the near future too. Launching my shop was my show and tell for last week my friend made a lamp shade out of fabric strips similar to this but with cuter fabric. I should have taken a picture last friday but I didn't I will be better prepared next week. Jenn is also working on new quilt patterns so that is pretty exciting it's really fun to see how she interprets things completely differently than I do it makes me see things differently too. I'm really loving this show and tell and speaking of which I got to get started on this week! Happy Thursday!
Fall is my favorite season, after a blazing hot summer in Texas there is nothing better than enjoying a brisk morning with a cozy sweater. I have been working on this idea for a drawing since last Fall, an illustration to celebrate the arrival of sweater weather!
or the more classic button down with a cute print and contrast color.
I also really love a touch of embroidery, it makes an ordinary sweater a little more special...
My heart shaped embroidery pattern was inspired also inspired by DIY post from One Sheepish Girl, her sweet floral pattern is awesome!!!
This drawing initially started as a sketch, but then I decided it would be better to draw it digitally.
I'm so excited I'm going to Arboretum tomorrow and I'm taking my sweater!!
It was my coworker's birthday, and I wanted to try something a little bit different for the cake, so I made strawberry cream cheese frosting with yellow cake. It was easy and really tasty. I looked for a recipe and it said to add 1/2 cup of mashed strawberries(drained) and blend into the cream cheese frosting. It was so nice to bake something again, I love being in the kitchen :)
I added bits of chunky strawberry in between the frosted layers of cake and had fun with a little heart shaped garnish.
strawberry goodness
I used a small paring knife to make the heart shape. I think I will make more fruit shapes in the future it's just too cute :)
I also had a drawing in mind for a card, that I spent a couple days sketching out by hand, and after many failed attempts, I did a quick digital sketch and was finally happy with the result.
I just love birthdays and making people feel special. Have you made anything fun for friend's birthdays lately? Happy Tuesday to you!
In anticipation for Fall, I've started thinking about Halloween drawings and creatures, and I was playing with the idea of a cute little candy corn.
I was thinking about how playful and fun she looked with appendages but at the last minute decided to go against it when I whipped up my plush prototype.
This was my first experience with printable fabric, it feels like a canvas type material. Just print, peel off the paper backing and your ready to sew. I'm so glad my friend, let me have some of this fabric to experiment with. I think I'm kind of addicted now, and I'm thinking about more creatures and animals and maybe seeing how things come out on Spoonflower, for better wear and tear and color representation.
I used some candy corn fabric for the back side, I got on clearance a few months ago at Cabbage Rose, they have a great selection of everything, I love to go there and explore and dream about possible projects.

Anyway I'm excited for Fall and for Halloween, what Fall projects have you been working on lately?
I had a whirlwind of a weekend, I went to visit family and it was so good to see everyone! It's one thing to catch up on the phone and on facebook but it's so good to see your family in person. It was so nice to finally meet little ones I had only seen in pictures and get to see their cute little personalities in action, those nice little moments that turn into memories.
My grandfather meeting his newest great grandchild
I also got to test out a drawing app for ipad. I have been wanting to do this for months!!! It was so great to get to sketch with my finger and paint and mix the colors together. I had done research previously and was interested in Sketchbook Pro, but it has a lot a tools and I just wanted something that I already knew that I could just jump in and use so I went with Adobe Ideas.
This is my winter bear sketch, I went kinda crazy with the scarf and the hat experimenting with texture and layering.
Flowers are always fun to draw :)
I used different tools on this drawing. the paintbrush has a fine pointed tip which I used on the flower. On parts of hummingbird, I used the marker tool which has a thicker line to it.
I only had a couple days to play with it, I can't imagine how awesome it would be to try drawing with a stylus. Have you used any new apps or techniques in your projects?
On a side note this is my 100th post, glad I got to cross of a long time goal of testing out a drawing app and share some new sketches :) Hope you have a great week!
Lately, I'm really loving acrylic paper, it's so textured it absorbs markers and pencils so well. It's so fun mixing and blending colors on it. I've been experiment with different concepts, and I think I'm gonna stay away from computer aided drawing for a while. I have been day dreaming about mischievous wild hair bunnies for a little while now. Going on adventures and possibly getting into trouble....
of course he's blue
Some of my favorite artists have come out with some new creations and I couldn't be happier!
I love Kelli Murray's girl and animal illustrations but her new flower series is also beautiful and captivating, I'm always a sucker for pretty flowers.
I love the amazing detail she gives to her creations, from the faces to the outfits, it's really inspiring.
I'd like to experiment with paper clay. Her jewelry is really pretty too, I love her floral motifs :)
Lily Pulitzer an icon of the fashion world passed away this week. I did not know how she got started in the business. I love to hear the story of how people started their business, sometimes it's to fix a problem and then it morphs into something else entirely. Like Lily's story, she started a juice stand and needed a way to cover up the juice stains on her dress, so she had one made in a brightly colored print. Now those bright prints are synonymous with sophisticated summer style. Her classmate Jackie Kennedy wore one of her first dresses (made of curtain material) and everyone had to have one and her dress business began.
From covering up juice stains to creating your own clothing label it's pretty inspiring.
when I think of Lily I think if Fucshia and Green
They have a shop by print feature....that's pretty cool!
I love the little swatches of the prints
What has been inspiring you this Spring? Any new project ideas?
Hope you have a wonderful Thursday!
Happy Easter! I hope you all had a good time with your family and friends. I apologize for my belated post. I drew a spring bunny to celebrate this season of new beginnings. As I've gotten older, I've become more grateful for this time of spiritual reflection and renewal.
P.S. I'm really into flower garlands right now
Went to see the pretty spring flowers at the Dallas Arboretum. I wish I could get tulips to grow in my yard that look this good!
pretty pastels
lovely stripes
chinese snowball viburnum = gorgeous
wisteria flowing over the rooftops reminds me of the hobbit's shire
Fox glove
I'm going to be more disciplined this week, can't wait to share more. Happy Monday :)
Today is my 1 year blog anniversary! The time has definitely flown by, it's crazy how things become a part of your everyday routine.
I wish gummy bear balloons actually existed
What a wonderful year its been. I wanted to have a creative outlet to share my artistic side and other stuff I'm excited about like crafting, baking, and fashion.
I really love to write about things I'm passionate about and I love seeing what all is going on in the blogosphere. But my main goal was develop my drawing style and open a shop and while I was just enjoying the creative process and make things on a regular basis. But now I need to see my goals through to completion. I finally made a list of things I want to focus on.
1. Using Spoonflower to make detailed illustrations on fabric.
I love drawing I love fabric it was only a matter of time before someone came up with tools to print your own designs. This is happening very soon!
2. Do some illustrations inspired by songs. I love music, I can't work without it, it makes me happy, relaxed and focused. What could be a better inspiration than that?
3. Create my own T shirt designs. I've always been interesting in screen printing, I found a really great company and I'm coming up with a swirly, colorful explosion something awesome that I can wear to work. This is a doodle, don't take it seriously lol
I love stars and purple
4. Create and explore characters. I love to explore animals with human nuances and I love coming up with random wild monster creatures too. I'd like to see where this could go if I gave it the right amount of attention.
I am very excited to see where these projects will take me, maybe I will come up with other ideas along the way that I love even better.
I hope to focus more on my art projects but also discover and discuss more food, fashion and DIY this year. I hope you continue on this journey with me :)
Last weekend, I didn't feel so well and didn't do much. The weather wasn't so great either, but I made the best of it. I got to give my friend, the cutest mug I have seen in quite a while! It is so perfect for her :)
This is mug is part of a very cute collection of different animals and prints, see if you can find them at your Target, as they do not seem to be listed online.
I also had the best cinnamon rolls for dessert because they are just that good, yes they are from a can.
I have been working on my drawing, my goal for the month and here are few of them. I am working on some new ideas, that I'm pretty excited about and I think I might be in the mood to sew some creatures again soon.
peg leg pirate squirrel
happy little toucan

31 days of drawing are almost up, and I'll admit I'm behind and trying to catch up. It has still be a fun process though. Hope your week is going well! Happy Tuesday!!
