Fall Productivity

Fall is my favorite time of year. The welcome change in weather, wearing sweaters and scarfs and the colors of the changing leaves. And of course baking pumpkin everything, decorating and Halloween fun. I feel like October always kind of sneaks up on me and I never take the time do to the things I want and really celebrate and savor the season. But this year I am going to be more productive and really enjoy fall. It has been so hot this summer, and humid the past week. I can't wait until the air is crisp and the pumpkins show up at the farmer's market. I have a lot of fall related sketches maybe more of them will get done soon.

This is an idea of have had for about 6 months. This is my first version......I like parts of it but overall not what I wanted.

I started playing with the idea again a month or so ago and I really like this version much better.

Balloons in love
Hair style inspired by Kate

Oh to be a balloon without a care in the world...... floating in the sky....

I made banana bread for the first time in forever today ( its the Babycakes recipe) so fluffy and delicious!

 everything's better with chocolate

I finally found some Orla Kiely soap at target......pear scent.......look how cute it looks with my coordinating dish towels that I refuse to use because they are so pretty lol. The towels are also a Target collab from a couple years ago.....she did other cute housewares too
I love her prints

Also my succulent garden is growing, I got them repotted and watered now they are so happy :)

What are your plans for Fall?

Runway vs. Real Way: Peplums

I'm super excited for fall! Especially fashion wise......all the texture and jewel tones it's my favorite time of year for so many reasons.
Ok so 3 months ago when the fall trends started trickling in, I kept hearing peplums are gonna be big.
I'd I kept thinking really women are going to want to draw attention to their hips......ok?
And sure enough they started gaining momentum and are pretty much everywhere....even Kohls.
Here's the view from the runway( see slideshow here)

In some cases it's just a ruffle added on top of a tapered pencil skirt shape but there are subtle and exaggerated versions. I thought I wouldn't like it but I tried a dress on the other day and didn't feel completely ridiculous so that's always nice :)

Here are some of my favorite silhouettes....

patterned and belted

I like that the peplum is tapered and the bow belt is cute

polka dots give it a fun spin

I like the neckline and hem on this one
love the pintuck neckline
also super cute as a skirt

peplum top

1. patterned and belted
2.tapered with bow and polka dots
3. cute neckline and hem
4.burgundy dress and black skirt
5. peplum top

So in a nutshell peplum dresses are pretty and retro, skirts are fun...... but as a top the idea just seems  a little disjointed. Do you think you will be incorporating this look into your fall wardrobe? I might try to as soon as I get back in shape lol :)

Cake and other things

Here's what has been happening lately.......
The Jason Mraz concert was amazing! He just kept playing non stop and his band was really awesome, I'm really glad I got to go with my dear friend. Needless to say I have been listening to him incessantly, which is not really different from any other time but whatever.

pretty light show

The weather has been so nice lately! Almost fall like, it's been cool and very pleasant. So pleasant in fact, that when I was at Bolsa last weekend I sat on the patio. Here's a picture from the patio, I wish it was better quality so you could see the great purples and blues in graffiti across the street ...

Last week was kinda busy and all I wanted was some cake.
Because cake makes everything better :)
I finally got around to baking and drawing this week.

complete with chocolate flowers

I am pretty drawn to cream and pink these days. What do you think about the font I drew for "cake"? I'd love to know your thoughts..... Ok well I hope to blog more this week...
 Happy Wednesday!

Top 5 Random Smattering

I've been crazy busy this week, so of course I have not met my goals for myself. But I have time to tell you what I'm excited about this week :)

1. Chuck Close. I started writing a top 5 list of my favorite exhibits at the Modern and he is one of my favorites, and I started reading more about him and was even more inspired. He struggled with dyslexic and had trouble in school but applied himself in art. His parents got him sessions with a professional art teacher when he was 10 and even then he was extremely talented. He also has Prosopagnosia, which means he cannot recognize faces which is very interesting because all he paints is portraits. The biggest difficulty he has overcome is finding a way to paint again after he became paralyzed. Most of my favorite pieces of his are after he was paralyzed, I wonder if something happened to me would I still have the drive to create and make things?

2. Fuchsia accessories
I found some super cute slip ons  at where else Target, these are a similar style same color palette.
look at the cute owl print lining :)
I like to visit Dillards from time to time and look at all the new bags and wallets. I was looking for a cross body and I am quite disappointed with fossil.....$88 for coated canvas......plastic coated fabric please tell me you are joking?! On a side note can everyone please stop knocking off Orla Kiely already? I know she's expensive but her prints are what make her shiny logo hardware...anyway don't get me started on that.
I think Lucky Brand is really underrated, they have really cute vintage styling and use nice quality leather, I have been looking at their bags off and on for awhile. I almost bought a huge suede bag with western styling because it was on clearance but I successfully talked myself out of it :)
But not this time I went back on forth on this cute little crossbody it's kind of narrow at the top but I can still fit my fat old school wallet in there so I am quite pleased!

I know it looks a little cheesy but it's super cute in person, I will take photos soon. I ran into Marshall's after I bought it to see if I could find something cheaper, and they had the same bag for more than Dillard's! So word to the wise sometimes Dillards has good close outs.

3. Baking
I've gotten slightly back into the swing of things with baking and I'm excited to experiment and Gesine really gets me inspired. Her memoir is hilarious and includes recipes, and she's also
Sandra Bullock's sister so that's kind of fun. I can't wait to try some more of her recipes out.

4. Jason Mraz. What to say about Jason, he is one of my favorite artists. I've loved his music ever since Waiting for My Rocket to Come, and yes his single Remedy was great but I love all the other songs they never played on the radio. And yes I'm Yours is an awesome song, but that whole album is amazing. Not to mention he sings better live......how many singers can you say that about these days?! and I'm finally, finally going to see him SATURDAY!! YAY

This is an old performance but I don't care, I still love it.

 5. August Movies!
The Bourne Legacy Yep I'm excited who doesn't like Jeremy Renner?

ParaNorman Yes I'm weird and think stop motion movies about kids that can see ghosts are cute, we'll see could go either way lol

Robert & Frank  Frank Langella gets a robot to help him in a jewelry heist.....interesting

Happy Friday to you
