Here's  the Top 5 things I'm excited about now :)

1. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
I love the awesome soundtrack, Kirsten Wiig's amazing and endearing performance. The graphics and cinematography and the beautiful Icelandic landscape makes an awesome backdrop for Walter's adventure. Oh, yeah and Ben Stiller wasn't half bad! Anyway I loved it saw it twice already and will buy it on DVD later this year.

2. I saw this article in the paper about a local woman who makes applique art quilts, her technique is pretty amazing and her work is so fun to look at! If you look closely you can see the stitch detail! I would like to experiment more with fabric and embroidery in the future.

 3. I'm not much into Legos anymore but a recent development has made me so super giddy I think that will change soon.. the Simpsons House Lego Set!!!! You have to watch this awesome video where the designers explain the fun little details of the process and everything. I think I have missed my calling as a Lego Designer lol

4. Disney does some pretty great marketing from time to time, my favorite is celebrities dressed up like Disney characters from our favorite tales. Lovely photos by Annie Leibovitz.

5. Pharrell is amazing songwriter and he's done an wonderful job on the Despicable Me soundtracks, I love the happy fun songs they put me in such a great mood! Pharrell was just nominated for an Oscar for best original song for "Happy". Check out the awesome, hilarious, dancey commercial for Beats By Dr. Dre Pill Speaker featuring "Happy"!

Weekend Recharge

Even though it was rainy, cloudy and cold this weekend, I still managed to get outside and enjoy the cold weather.
I went to the Nasher and got to see the Ken Price exhibit, from the pictures and style I was assuming it was large sculptures made of out plastic or something, but I was amazed to learn it was ceramic.

This was my favorite piece, I love the color combination and texture, it kinda reminds me of something flower like.

His finishing technique is really interesting, he would paint multiple layers on and then sand them down to create and textured effect, it's really amazing to see in person, it's hard to wrap your brain around it. Even though I have worked a little with ceramics, I was baffled and intrigued.

He started putting his own spin on a more traditional vessel, and created a very large series of cups.
I really like the ones with animal touches. This was a retrospective exhibit, I always love to see how people start out and grow as artist, how one idea transforms into another. Like for example one of his earlier cups was one with a snail, and then later his style became more geometric and rigid with bright colors and angles.

I always love being immersed in other people's work, it gives me hope and motivation to keep pursuing and what's important to me.

I wish my backyard was this awesome. All lush and green with big trees and sculptures, it's so calm and relaxing out there. I love it :)

We decided to go to the new park that recently open, it's built over a large highway, and there was food trucks! Even though it was cold, we decided to get ice cream sandwiches from Cool Haus.

Then I went over to the DMA to take pictures of my favorite part of the museum, the glass sculpture installation that's arranged in the front window, it looks like Chihuly but I'm not sure.

I finally got to go see the Chihuly installation we have been trying to go since October and I was so afraid it was going to be cold by December, but you know what they say about Texas weather....just wait and it will change. It was a lovely sunny day, the plants and flowers were beautiful and the sculptures were amazing, my favorite was this one. It was a really great way to celebrate my birthday, I want to find a documentary on Chihuly very soon!

Then I tried making clay ornaments a fun holiday craft idea provided by one of my favorite blogs.
The sculpey clay was hard to roll out but it was fun, I haven't decorated them yet with paint pens but it's a little more fancy than paper tags and it's not much more effort YAY!

Then I made some red velvet mini bundt cakes with Sprinkles mix. I am sending them to family, without my awesome cream cheese frosting but the cake is so excellent that I think they will still be pleased.

Now that my birthday is over I'm gearing up for Christmas. I think I am pretty much done shopping now I just have to start decorating :)
