Floral Print Sweatshirt

Do you ever see a cute outfit on one of your favorite tv characters and think "I need that for myself!"
I had one of those moments the other day when I was watching Big Bang Theory, Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco)  had on the prettiest floral print sweater, I loved how vivid the colors were :)

see more here

I found the sweater on Wornontv.net it's such an awesome site for fashion nerds! I love seeing where clothes came from each episode because the characters looks so everyday casual and then it turns out they are wearing crazy expensive brands. Like the sweater Penny is wearing for example, isn't really a sweatshirt it's cashmere ( insert disappointing wail at pricetag here). So I made a floral print sweatshirt roundup, with prices in every range :)

A. Similar to the sweater Penny was wearing but in silk by Theory
B. Black Multi From Mango Outlet
C. Spring Pink and Mint from Marc Jacobs
D. Blue and Yellow from Anthropologie
E.  Spring Lilies from Forever 21

When I get really obsessed with something I have to draw it and interpret it in my own way, so of course I had to draw Penny wearing the sweater, lol. I've always wanted to do fan art of the big bang cast, I have been a fan of the show since the beginning, it probably would have gone better if I had used my mouse and Illustrator instead of trying to sketch with my fingers on ipad but I'm glad I did it.
I can't wait to start of some new projects that have been bouncing around in my head for a while.

Anyway what pieces are you excited to add to your wardrobe for Spring?

Summer Activities

I'm struggling with getting my artwork to a complete and finished place. Mostly because I'm tired and still recovering from my surgery in June, I am still on crutches and a scooter. I'm really looking forward to the day when I can walk on both feet, but until then I'm trying to stay busy and work in a lot of different drawing projects

I've been pretty obsessed with watching tattoo shows on netflix, I've watched Miami Ink before, but I got really engrossed in the details and technique of tattooing this time around, how everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and they really want to learn from each others strengths. It makes me want to brush up on my drawing skills big time and work on the stuff that I'm not so great at.
By the way just had to share, because I just randomly googled Adventure Time tattoos the other day :)

i love you everything burrito

lady rainicorn

stretchy jake

little tiny finn

marcy & simon

I've also BBC shows like Doc Martin and reruns of Sherlock. My favorite new show on during the summer is Rookie Blue, about rookie cops working up the ranks and working together, it reminds of of ER a lot.

It's also really awesome that I can draw a doodle and reformat it and post it on society6 as a new artwork.  I love playing with multiple colors and opacity :)

What are you excited about this Summer?

Funny Girl Fashion

In honor of Tuesday night comedies with a female lead, I thought I would do a fun fashion post.
Featuring Zooey Deschanel of New Girl and Mindy Kaling of The Mindy Project, both very funny and fashionable girls with unique styles and sense of humor.

Zooey is known for her love of vintage dressing, and her new capsule collection with Tommy Hilfiger, does a wonderful job of blending nautical flair, with a mod feel and a touch of vintage details.

see more sketches here

I think this dress is my favorite, it's kind of timeless and the two tone is on trend without overwhelming details.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I love her girly details, like the printed peekaboo pleats!!!

And her cute little penny loafer mini bag

And on to Mindy, I like her eclectic, everyday career woman wardrobe mixed with affordable trendy pieces, and pieces you can only dream about...
love the kate spade bow skirt

the best shirt ever! and DIY here

Another example is this beautifully gorgeous white dress with blue flowers, so awesome and elegant in fact that Kate Middleton wore it in the same week!

I think they both look great :)

Who's style do you admire?

Summer Shows

Things have been busy lately but there have been some bright spots. I have recently discovered tv shows that have brought some much needed laughter :)

The first is Duck Dynasty, yes I know but hear me out. I am not an avid fan of reality tv which is why it took me awhile to see what the show was actually about. They are interesting family to say the least and while they do get distracted by outdoor adventures and random projects, they do come together and support each other as a family and that is really nice to see. Especially the older generation, the grandparents teaching and instilling values in their grandchildren, it makes me wish I lived closer to my family that's for sure.

I also read Phil's book, Happy, Happy, Happy and it was very interesting to learn how he and his siblings grew up and how he and Kay started their family young, and how they struggled and eventually came to have a personal relationships with God. I never get tired of hearing people's testimony about how God changed their life. Phil is passionate about the outdoors and it was such a great reminder to see how God can use your passion to touch to people. Phil combines his passion for God and ducks by doing speaking engagements that include a sermon and duck call demonstrations. Anyway, it was really inspiring and a good reminder that God can use whatever circumstances you're in and whatever you're passionate about to reach other people.

My second new discovery is a little more silly, Adventure Time. A show about a boy and his trusty dog as they go on adventures and help those in need. I love all the different lands, and characters, it's pretty cute and kinda random. I finally decided to rent on Netflix because of Chantal's work (aka PonyChops) she has painted a few Adventure Time themed items, and her stuff was so cute and happy I had to see what all the fuss was about. I'm glad I did, I may be older but I still like to get lost in a cartoon every now and then.

Top 5

Here's my top 5 things I'm excited about right now.

1. I got to take a painting class with my friends this past weekend, it was really great to hang out and do something different together, and it's always fun to see how everyone's painting will turn out. Everyone has their own style :)

2. I get pretty obsessed when I discover new music or a new song I really like. I am really into the band Ruth right now. They are upbeat, and experiment with genres, and their lyrics are endearing :)
AND I really love their covers EP. I love when people put their own spin on pop songs, with the exception of Christmas songs lol. No one should redo Wham's "Last Christmas" because the original is perfect but I digress ;)

3. Springtime and new plants. I have been looking at these succulents for a while and I finally got some at Home Depot the other day :) And I got some new seeds too! I love spreading seeds it's always a wonderful surprise to see what will come up.

Neon green = happiness

4.  Yes, I love children's movies, and this is the best trailer I have seen in a long time. Is it summer yet?

5. I also love my British comedies and I've become pretty avid fan of Doc Martin. He was a successful surgeon in London who becomes a GP in a sleepy little seaside town, where everybody and I mean, everybody knows each others' business. It didn't come on PBS this weekend and I was going through withdrawal, but Hulu saves the day! They have a ton of episodes and I got to catch up on the 1st season which I totally missed. I will admit at first I wasn't that impressed but it kinda sneaks up on you and once you get to know the characters it's completely hilarious :)

Hope you have a wonderful week, I'm going to try to be more disciplined this week and make more time for projects that have been swirling around in my head.

Stuffed animals and more

Trying to more drawings done, but in the meantime, I thought I'd share my other recent obsession: making stuffed animals.

Soon after I started drawing owls, I thought why not try drawing on fabric and making a stuffed owl. The owl on the left, I made a few months ago in a creative fervor one night after work. I decided to experiment with stitching to enhance his features, I'd like to experiment more with that in the future.  I drew his girlfriend soon after but I just finished coloring and assembling her today. I am pleased with how she turned out.
Why yes that is a bow in her feathers
I am still working on my technique and creating workable proportions.

In other news, I saw the Lorax. While some details were changed in this version, I thought it was still really great. It's so fun to see his quirky drawings interpreted in all the colorful nuances computer animation has to offer.
I wish we could have spent more time with the cute little animals though
I'd also like to share my favorite TV show opening, it gets points for having a catchy song, ridiculous props, and encapsulating the show's plot in under 30 second. YAY

Hope to get more done this week, I have so many new fun things to share!

New inspiration and new projects

I love going to museums and admiring some of my favorite artists and discovering new ones too! My goal for this year was to visit a diffe...
