favorite winter look

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! As I reflect on the things that have happened this year, some calm and some very crazy... they have made me so grateful for my supportive family and friends and sweet little puppies :)

yeah I like to draw accessories on them since they don't like wearing costumes lol

I have been working on this fashion sketch outfit idea for quite awhile, I was thinking at first I wanted to make it a post of things I would actually wear, and that kept changing, and since I draw animals so much I quickly realized I was just a little rusty on drawing girls so here we are: my favorite look for winter! I got the inspiration for this sketched fashion post from Joy @ oh Joy blog and Kate of Scathingly Brilliant who have done fun versions of their own.

Ok, so lets talk about the pieces of a winter outfit that most women look for every winter season, a sweater update, a fun transitional top, jeans you can tuck your boots into and new boots of course!

Cardigan: I'm always on the hunt for a long cardigan that is possibly a jewel tone and MUST HAVE POCKETS! This chevron striped cardigan from Target doesn't disappoint, it is a lovely deep teal color has an awesome chevron weave and pockets a win-win in my book and it's even on sale now

The transitional top: I often wear short sleeves or a tank top with a sweater when its not that cold out, I love a patterned top, because patterns make me happy and I feel like that they might camouflage my extra weight a little better, I could be delusional but who knows :P This purple patterned top is from Old Navy and would look fun with a cardigan.

Denim Jeggings: confession time.....I've been stuck in a yoga leggings rut since my surgery over a year ago, they are just so comfy and go with everything, that's kind of a cop out but I couldn't find anything resembling jeans that I liked especially since everything is going 70's inspired (high-waisted and flared leg) I still think there is a place for low rise skinny jeans and that is boot season! I found these at American Eagle their new collection is supposed to have superior stretch retention etc. They are even more on sale today than their normal sale of buy one/ get one 50% off
so if you've been thinking about it, now is the time to pounce!

Studded boots: Trying to find a cardigan with pockets is difficult, trying to find awesome boots with the right toe shape and not too much heel and some hardware to boot is nearly impossible. I have succeeded this season and you might laugh but easy spirit has some comfortable and cute shoes, including these boots which are now on sale!!!

So this was a fun post to do, I think I might do more in the future! What pieces are you looking to add to your winter wardrobe and what items are you really excited about?!

Happy Weekend to you!!!

Fall update!

Well I’m doing really bad on the whole “sticking to a schedule” thing
The pups are my day to day focus and have grown leaps and bounds!

They didn’t enjoy their Halloween hot dog costume too much but did enjoy chewing on pumpkin stems ;)

As far as projects go I was able to do a fun new drawing of one of my favorite movies of all time
Nightmare Before Christmas!
see more here

Society6 has so many fun products that lend themselves to prints now (like the all over print t shirts, leggings, travel mugs and blanket throws!!!) how can you not want to design prints all the time! I kinda want one of those blanket throws for Christmas :)
see more here

I’ve been working on a custom elephant order as well! I designed this little guy for a baby shower and he’s been quite popular. I love a cute little elephant :) Getting my projects done during nap time of course ;)

I can’t believe it’s already November and summer is officially gone in Texas, it always drags it’s feet and then in warp speed (always right around Halloween it never fails) one rainy weekend we transfer to Fall just like that! I’m so ready for scarfs, sweaters and boots. I’m so excited in fact that I’m going to do a fashion post!

And Fall movies I’m excited for those too! Just saw Bridge of Spies this past weekend (it was awesome, who doesn’t love Tom Hanks?) and the new Bond movie comes out Friday!! Wahoo!

Well that’s all for now! How was everyone’s October? What are you excited for this Winter season?

Dreaming and Wishing for Fall

I'm writing this post one handed as I hold a sleeping puppy in my lap, last week I got not 1 but 2 puppies, I've never had two dogs before so this has been a new and exciting experience! Their personalities are so funny and they have definitely kept me busy this last week and for the foreseeable future I will no longer have time to mull about and procrastinate which is good I guess :)

Fall is my favorite time of year, probably because Texas summers are so brutal and any relief is a much welcome change, I love fall fashion, hot drinks and talking walks in the cooler weather. Not to mention Halloween, I've always loved celebrating, decorating pumpkins, costumes and candy.
One of my favorite movies of all time is Nightmare before Christmas so I always like to watch it especially in the Fall.

working on some new designs

I've added Halloween prints in my shop: a trick or treat bunny, a cute little spider and happy candy corn

and I finished some more candy corn plushies, a girl with a bow and happy candy corn

and pillow covers my dear  friend quilted with my spider panel in the middle that has embroidery detail on the web!!

I'm trying to get more stuff in my shop soon, here's my latest work in progress

Hope to share more soon :)

My New Favorite Summer Outfit

My new favorite summer outfit consists of a super fun button front tank and some drawstring crop pants! Even better they were both on sale!!! The top is from Anthropologie, and I was able to get it on sale I'm normally don't like button downs or woven fabric in the summer ....too hot, but this flowy tank is a breathable synthetic blend similar here.  I really love the print on this tank it has a retro feel and the buttons are so cute too!

I'm a sucker for the little details and Anthropolgie always does a great job. I also rediscovered my Revlon ColorBurst Lip Stain in Smitten, I forgot what nice burst of color it adds, I'm all about minimal effort for a great look.

And let's talk about the fact that stretchy pants are all the range, there are no structured capris hardly anywhere to be found. This summer the palazzo, gaucho, and jogger pant reign and I don't think anyone could be mad that a stretchy waistband is actually in vogue. The drawstring capris I got are from Landsend, they are a very nice feeling Tencel fabric and they feel a bit dressier than yoga pants
and there's pockets to boot.

So let's celebrate the summer of stretchy pant, because you never know how long a trend will last.
I think Mindy Kaling but it best.

Yep, I agree! What summer trends are you excited about?

crafty projects and other stuff

Hi there, I'm going to try to write more than 1 post a month starting now, so let's see how that goes
here's what I'm excited about lately :)

I went to the Arlington Museum of Art and saw a Toulouse Lautrec and other post impressionist artists it was pretty interesting and I found some new favorites. The top one called is my favorite was just amazing in size was just so beautiful and relaxing to look at, the colors weren't vibrant but still really mesmerizing. I always feel a jolt of fresh creativity going to museums and being inspired by new and fun things, it makes me want to go home and work on my own projects :)

I also got to do a DIY project that I've been looking forward to for a while! I've been pretty interested in marbling for a while just never got around to doing it. I wanted to try it with nail polish so me and my friend tried it on mugs it turned out pretty cool, we decided that it would be better to use as a pen and pencil mug on a desk since the nail polish isn't dishwasher safe, etc. I really want to try a version with paint sometime soon or maybe Easter eggs!

As far as sewing projects go I've been wanting to make a tank dress from an already made tank top and whatever kind of cotton fabric you want, I first saw the idea here.
I found the most beautiful floral fabric, and a top I'm pretty happy with. Now I'm working up to making  a practice version 1st, so I don't mess up this beautiful fabric, it definitely gives me the fabric jitters >_<

I've also been working on my stuffed animals, my little owl girl went to her new home so that was exciting! I'm working on more animals to list in my shop soon and thinking about new ideas too.

What have you been  up too lately?

I'm still alive and I'm making new stuff!

Hi Everyone!

I know I have neglected my blog lately but I've finished a lot of projects  :)

I finally created and finished a drawing idea I've had for a really long time and made it into my first gif! It needs some tweaking but I'm excited to have come this far.

I've been pretty obsessed with dinosaurs since I made some dinosaur valentines in February. I decided to make a fun dino pattern for society6 items, YAY!

And finally I finished my first minky plush, my colorful little owl friend
who is now in my etsy shop

What have you been up to lately?

Long time No See

I haven't posted in forever! Here's what I've been up to lately! I got to visit family and work on idea had in the woodshop.......it's still needs to be painted ;)

I got to visit my grandmother and celebrate her birthday with the most fantastic cake I've ever seen!!!
My grandmother likes to make birdhouses so that was the cake theme. This amazing cake has reminded me how much I wanted to work as an intern at Ace of Cakes lol.

I'm excited for summer fashion, I do love a cute tank top and I found a super fun one at Target!

And it's on sale this week for $8, it's out of stock online but look for it in the store with the junior stuff ! It's the weekly wow!

I've been working on new projects and I think I've finally got all the kinks worked out on some of my stuffed animal patterns

I saw Cinderella and added some new artwork to my society6 shop
Have courage and be kind in floral border and happy bird versions

Anyway I've got a lot of new ideas its always the same story so many ideas not enough time :)
But I'm working on things little by little ;)

Also just have to give a shout out to my good friend Jennifer @purpleheartorijennals
She just finished this amazing quilt, I got to see her whole process on this quilt from arranging the squares for the pixelated heart pattern to the adorable polka dot binding!!! I never really knew about quilting with vintage fabrics until I met her but now I can't get enough and I love the look!
It's so pretty and I'm so proud of her for finishing it and listing it in her shop!!

What projects have you been working on lately? Do you have creative friends that inspire you and get you excited to work on things?
Happy Wednesday!!!

Floral Print Sweatshirt

Do you ever see a cute outfit on one of your favorite tv characters and think "I need that for myself!"
I had one of those moments the other day when I was watching Big Bang Theory, Penny (played by Kaley Cuoco)  had on the prettiest floral print sweater, I loved how vivid the colors were :)

see more here

I found the sweater on Wornontv.net it's such an awesome site for fashion nerds! I love seeing where clothes came from each episode because the characters looks so everyday casual and then it turns out they are wearing crazy expensive brands. Like the sweater Penny is wearing for example, isn't really a sweatshirt it's cashmere ( insert disappointing wail at pricetag here). So I made a floral print sweatshirt roundup, with prices in every range :)

A. Similar to the sweater Penny was wearing but in silk by Theory
B. Black Multi From Mango Outlet
C. Spring Pink and Mint from Marc Jacobs
D. Blue and Yellow from Anthropologie
E.  Spring Lilies from Forever 21

When I get really obsessed with something I have to draw it and interpret it in my own way, so of course I had to draw Penny wearing the sweater, lol. I've always wanted to do fan art of the big bang cast, I have been a fan of the show since the beginning, it probably would have gone better if I had used my mouse and Illustrator instead of trying to sketch with my fingers on ipad but I'm glad I did it.
I can't wait to start of some new projects that have been bouncing around in my head for a while.

Anyway what pieces are you excited to add to your wardrobe for Spring?

Ideal Day

Hello I know I haven't posted in a while I got distracted with projects and work and life in general :)

Let's talk about an ideal day, what does that look like for you? An ideal, fun day for me would be enjoying some art, shopping at a fun store like Anthropologie (especially when they are having a sale) and adding to my fabric stash. I did just that over my holiday break, here are some of the highlights.

I first went to Anthropologie, hoping a little to find something but I rarely do. I found a cute top that wasn't on sale (but now it is!)

AND I found this cute warm sweater moto jacket ON SALE, that actually makes me look pretty good I think especially since I've gained some weight and tried moto jackets in the past that just didn't work with my figure. I love the sweater cuffs and lace lining in the back and functioning pockets
YAY!!!! Anthropologie victory :)

I went to see the highly anticipated "Faces of Impressionism" exhibit at the Kimbell Museum in Ft. Worth. It wasn't exactly what I thought it would be but I discovered a few new pieces that are new favorites.  From Renoir and Van Gogh

I love the main building the exterior concrete walls are so fun and the main sculpture that welcomes you into the museum makes me happy!!!
the view off to the side on my way into the museum

and facing the street from the museum entrance

Thirdly, I went to Cabbage Rose an awesome fabric store close to the museum.
I found some great fat quarters in complementary colors for a new project I'm working on and of course some adorable soft flannel in lovely colors!!!

I started making a patchwork owl but then I got distracted with other things as always ;)

That's my ideal fun day......what about you?
If you want to keep up with my projects and what not you can also check my instagram @floatingthrufields (which now has a link in my side bar YAY :)

New inspiration and new projects

I love going to museums and admiring some of my favorite artists and discovering new ones too! My goal for this year was to visit a diffe...
