birthday doodles

Lots of birthdays lately so I'm decided to come up with fun drawings to celebrate.

Some people are cat people, so that makes it easy.

Sometimes it's a phrase or an idea that brings an animal to mind, like a whale shooting a cupcake out of his blowhole... not really possible but perfect for birthday card.

I've also been drawing some new animals hedgehogs are fun and hippos are my new favorite!

Happy Wednesday to you :)

Creature Feature

So if you have been reading my blog at all, you probably know that I really love cute little creatures, and that they are often the subject of my creative adventures.
Well I have noticed lately that the cute critters are popping up everywhere in fashion.

Like this cute hedgehog top from yep, you guessed it Anthropologie

And I'm kinda in love with this western kitty shirt, and I'm not even a cat person..

Pullovers with a vintage feel over at Old Navy

I'm not totally on board with printed leggings, but Supayana's super cute prints make it pretty tempting.

And last but not least my favorite spin on adorable wearable creatures... Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs

Do you remember his collection from last year?  Well those cute little creatures have become the shoe versions above and he is taking the critter trend to the next level with a little more vivacious version this time around.

What do you think of his new collection, I like the pops of color but I think last year's collection is my favorite.
Those little heart shaped eyes are the cutest!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Design Inspiration: Oilily

When I was in fashion school, I spent a lot of time at the best mall in the area, looking at all the stores and exploring all that fashion had to offer. On one of my trips, I discovered a Dutch based store that specializes in beautifully bright designs & prints for kids and women. I love how fun and whimsical their designs are and how functional they are at the same time. My favorite thing about their design aesthetic for children is it's not mini versions of adults clothes: they express the humor and whimsy of childhood in bright patterns. The clothes celebrate childhood and that's what is so wonderful. I wish more American design companies had this mindset, but thanks to the internet we can discover and enjoy awesome design from all over the world.

Speaking of which, I'm head over heels for their children's bags: bright, fun and functional.

and my favorite the owl bag

The prints are so happy and let's face it they have the cutest models ever!

love this outfit down to the cute little  boots
The boy stuff is cute too!

Their products for Women are of course more adult but the prints are still lovely and saturated.
Check out more here. Who's designs are exciting to you?? I 'd love to hear from you.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday!

1 year blog-iversary

Today is my 1 year blog anniversary! The time has definitely flown by, it's crazy how things become a part of your everyday routine.

I wish gummy bear balloons actually existed

What a wonderful year its been. I wanted to have a creative outlet to share my artistic side and other stuff I'm excited about like crafting, baking, and fashion.
I really love to write about things I'm passionate about and I love seeing what all is going on in the blogosphere. But my main goal was develop my drawing style and open a shop and while I was just enjoying the creative process and make things on a regular basis. But now I need to see my goals through to completion. I finally made a list of things I want to focus on.

1. Using Spoonflower to make detailed illustrations on fabric.
I love drawing I love fabric it was only a matter of time before someone came up with tools to print your own designs. This is happening very soon!
I love floral prints

2. Do some illustrations inspired by songs. I love music, I can't work without it, it makes me happy, relaxed and focused. What could be a better inspiration than that?

3. Create my own T shirt designs. I've always been interesting in screen printing, I found a really great company and I'm coming up with a swirly, colorful explosion something awesome that I can wear to work. This is a doodle, don't take it seriously lol
I love stars and purple

4. Create and explore characters. I love to explore animals with human nuances and I love coming up with random wild monster creatures too. I'd like to see where this could go if I gave it the right amount of attention.

I am very excited to see where these projects will take me, maybe I will come up with other ideas along the way that I love even better.
I hope to focus more on my art projects but also discover and discuss more food, fashion and DIY this year. I hope you continue on this journey with me :)

I love color

Color makes me happy and one of my favorite colors of fall is pumpkin (big surprise) I haven't really been able to find fall staple that I really love. I'm thinking about getting a pea coat in that color, we'll see how that endeavor goes.

Here's some stuff I found today that I really like
I always gravitate to the water color patterns, and of course this top includes peplum detail.

Also I always love moto jackets this time of year.....I don't know what it is about zippers that make me giddy but I really love this silhouette and in a tweed it kinda softens it a little.

I always have trouble finding sweaters.....I'm not a layering girl.....even when it gets cold.
But look how cute this sweater is! I love the geometric pattern, it's unexpected and not overly masculine

When I do wear sweaters..I generally go for a cardigan .......I really like the pattern on this it's all
about the chevron right?

Back to color...when I'm drawing I always have a color scheme initially in mind but it definitely takes a while to get the picture in my head to match the paper and or screen. I'm currently having this struggle, it's like I can't focus on the overall design until I get the color right but I can't get there until I get more of the design.....it's definitely a give a take.

just messing with different strokes

I like painting on the computer better .....more control. I guess that's why I like drawing on the computer better too ;)

The picture below is hilarious and if you need a good laugh check out this website: dog-shaming

I've been sewing more since I have been having computer issues the past couple of weeks, I hope to share more soon.

animal companion

I have been so busy lately, I have definitely neglected my sewing projects, the last animals came with their challenges especially the bunny ears. But now I have a new simplified bunny ear technique that I'm going to try soon......
ear-less bunny beginnings

I been thinking about getting another pet for a while now. I am for the most part, a dog person but lately I have been gravitating toward cats in my drawings. When I was little, I had an orange cat with green eyes and so I named her Pickles. I guess this drawing came about in my recent recollection of her.
 green and brown eyes :)

This is my other cartoony cat, that you may remember from this post.
I wanted to celebrate naps as they are a luxury these days!
YAY for sleeping in the laundry basket, nothing like fresh warm laundry to snuggle into.

Naps can be categorized as a hobby right?
I also have plans to get back to baking, I miss it, I like making lovely things to eat. That and I have been watching a lot of Ace of Cakes  lately. Oh to be a talented cake decorator :)
Happy Wednesday Everyone!

New inspiration and new projects

I love going to museums and admiring some of my favorite artists and discovering new ones too! My goal for this year was to visit a diffe...
